Low pressure, never a blaster
Roof Soft Washing and Algae Stain Removal in Redington Beach
Those dark streaks running down the roof are mostly algae. We wash them off at low pressure, so the granules stay on the shingles and nothing gets blasted loose.

Why the pressure stays low
Humid gulf air and shade from palms and oaks give algae and moss an easy foothold on a roof. A high-pressure wand will take the streaks off, but it takes granules with them, and granules are what shield the asphalt from the sun.
Soft washing lets a cleaning solution do the work instead of force. The roof comes out clean and the surface stays intact.
What comes off the roof
Algae streaks
The black or dark green runs that show up first on shaded slopes.
Moss
Green patches that hold moisture against the shingles and can lift their edges over time.
Debris
Leaves, palm litter and grit sitting in valleys and behind vents where water should be draining.
Clean roof, protected yard
Cleaning the roof should not mean harming what grows or sits underneath it.
What we do
- Wet down and cover plants before and after
- Clean slope by slope at low pressure
- Keep runoff off pools and paving as far as we can
- Rinse gutters and downspouts once the roof is done
What we avoid
- Pressure-blasting the shingles
- Leaving residue on windows and siding
- Walking slick slopes more than the job needs
- Promising the streaks will never come back
Often the step before treatment
Rejuvenation needs a clean surface to soak into, so a soft wash is often done just ahead of shingle treatment. It also stands on its own if your shingles are in fair shape and you simply want the stains gone.
On a tile roof, the cleaning is part of our tile cleaning and sealing work instead.
Streaks creeping down the roof?
Tell us where they are and how long they have been there, and we will say whether a wash on its own will do.
